‘Featured On’ Post: Can Social Media Impact SEO?

I always get mildly confused look when I tell a client that part of my SEO strategy includes social media.

Why is this?

Well, to many people’s surprise, the disciplines of SEO and Social Media are not as separate as one might think. In fact, Search Engine Land even has an entire section dedicated to Social in its 2017 Periodic Table of SEO Success Factors.

Social media is important to SEO because ultimately, Google’s algorithm is run by authority and trust. In other words, Google pays a great deal of attention to which brands and websites are getting positive attention, and which brands are not. And what better way to determine this than to turn to social media, where people are free to discuss, link to, and share about, your brand.

In that way, social indicators (like number of followers, engagements and activity with your brand, etc.) are loosely correlated to your SEO performance.

For a further analysis of whether or not social impacts your SEO, check out the blog post I wrote for MBB+, an advertising agency located here in Kansas City Suburbia. Then, feel free to contact me to set up a time to talk about how you can get your social (and SEO) on.
